Our Karl Marx Allee Tour starts at the Urania Weltzeituhr at Alexanderplatz – close to the TV Tower (Fernsehturm)
Step back in time to the height of post-WWII Socialist Utopianism and journey along the showcase ‘Stalin Street’ of East Germany – past the palaces of the people while gazing into the restaurant windows to the world of the Socialist sister states.
Utilised for military parades, sporting events, and annual ceremonies, this street, with its monumental eight-storey ‘Wedding Cake style’ structures, was designed to impress upon visitors and residents of the city the strength and engineering skills of the German Democratic Republic as much as its ideological leanings.
…the Urania Weltzeituhr, Alexanderplatz, the Haus des Lehrers, the Haus der Statistik, the former Kino International, the Cafe Moskau, the site of the 1953 Uprising, the Karl Marx statue, Strausbergerplatz…
